The Story Behind Pupular: How I Created the Ultimate Dog Harness Solution

I love going on walks with my Shih Tzu, Charli. She's small, fluffy, and has an irresistibly cute underbite, and as such, she frequently gets stopped on the street for compliments. But what most people don't realize right away is that Charli can be... selective with her affection. She doesn't always love meeting new dogs, and sometimes even new people can be met with a cautious reception. As her trusted person, I wanted a way to communicate that without having to awkwardly explain to every passersby that Charli is a little shy.

Naturally, I turned to dog accessories. There are many custom dog harnesses out there emblazoned with "Do Not Pet" or "Friendly" patches, but I quickly discovered that most of them were designed to look tactical, were bulky, or honestly, just weren't Charli's style. Much like my approach to my own wardrobe, I wanted her to wear her harness, not have her harness wear her. Most importantly, I wanted a solution that was cute, versatile, and low-profile - while still giving me a way to advocate for her needs.

That's how Pupular was born. I designed a versatile harness band that wraps around any dog harness, making it easy to attach dog personality patches to communicate any aspect of your dog's psyche, from "Skittish" to "Friendly". I also designed a series of patches for some of the most common messages, but the great thing about the Harness Band is that it can be used with any Velcro patch. Pupular empowers dog owners to share key information about their pets while keeping walks fun and stress free.
